UPCOMING COOKING CLASSES

Parent-Child Class Cost: $75 per parent-child/adult-child pair.  An additional child may be added for $35.  Limit 2 children per adult.  All children and teens must be accompanied by an adult.  Everybody attending class must be registered.  Location: St. Mark’s Lutheran Church.

3/3 (Sun) — 1:30-3:30pm — Parent and Child Mardi Gras Beignets and Profiteroles

Make delicious French pastries with a special child! In this class, Adult-Child pairs will learn to make Pâte à Choux, the pastry dough used in many classic French pastries, as well as crème pâtissière, the thick French pastry cream used for filling pastries. Also Chocolate Ganache, delicious chocolate cream used for pastry fillings and truffles, too. Pairs will then learn how to put all of these recipes together to make Profiteroles (or choux à la crème). Pairs will also learn to make Beignets, classic French-style doughnuts from New Orleans and then will get to sample a savory twist on this classic, too. On the menu: Pâte à Choux; Crème Pâtissière; Chocolate Ganache; Classic Beignets with Powdered Sugar; and Savory Shrimp Beignets. Location: St. Mark’s.  Class Cost: $75 per parent-child pair (an additional child may be added for $35).

3/16 (Sat) — 9:30am-12:00pm — Parent and Child Taco Truck

Who doesn’t love tacos?  They are fun to make, fun to eat and can contain any number of delicious ingredients.   (Not just for Beans and Rice any more!)  Adult-child pairs will get to make and then enjoy these awesome tacos:  Crispy Oven Fried Chicken Tacos with Tomatoes and Mozzarella; Beef and Lime Tacos with Lettuce and Cheddar; Tempura Fish Tacos with Cabbage and Salsa Verde; and Homemade Taco Sauce.  Cinnamon Churros follow for dessert.  Location: St. Mark’s.  Class Cost: $75 per parent-child pair (an additional child may be added for $35).

3/23 (Sat) — 9:30am-12:00pm — Parent and Child Great British Brunch

Love watching the Great British Baking Show and other awesome BBC hits?  This class will make you feel like you’ve traveled to London for a delicious meal without leaving Madison!  On the menu: Home-made English Breakfast Sausages; Savory Baked Beans and Toast; Fluffy Scrambled Eggs the British way; and Cinnamon Sugar Scones with Clotted Cream and Jam.  Location: St. Mark’s.  Class Cost: $75 per parent-child pair (an additional child may be added for $35).

4/5 (Fri) –5:30-8:00pm – “Pizza, Pizza Pizza”– Parent and Child Pizza Class

Spend a fun Friday evening making delicious, homemade pizzas of your choice with a special kid!  Adult-child pairs will start by making two types of pizza dough, simmering tomato sauce and preparing toppings and will then make and bake personal pizzas from scratch.  Pairs will make Classic Pizza Dough and Whole Wheat Pizza Dough, and pizza toppings will include sautéed vegetables, a variety of cheeses and homemade Italian sausage.  We will even be making a “dessert” pizza!  Location: St. Mark’s.  Class Cost: $75 per parent-child pair (an additional child may be added for $35).

4/20 (Sat) — 9:30am-12:00pm — Parent and Child Tarts

Kids and parents (grand-parents Big Brothers/Sisters, etc.) will get to spend the morning together learning to make delicious sweet and savory tarts!  They will have a chance to work with different doughs: Phyllo Dough, Puff Pastry, and Chef Joel’s favorite Tart Dough, and will get to sample their tasty tarts in class plus take some home.  On the menu:  Roasted Tomato and Mozzarella Tarts; Sweet Onion and Cheddar Tarts; Chocolate and Cherry Tartlets; and Banana and Caramel Tarts.  Location: St. Mark’s.  Class Cost: $75 per parent-child pair (an additional child may be added for $35).

5/4 (Sat) — 9:30am-12:00pm – “National Hoagie Day Celebration”: Parent and Child Hoagies

Hoagies, Heroes or Subs–call them what you want, but there is nothing like a great big sandwich!  Parents and kids (or adult/child pairs) can celebrate National Hoagie Day together deliciously.  They will begin the class by making the dough for the bread that will be used to make hoagies.  While the dough is rising and baking, they’ll help to prepare the ingredients for a hoagie bar that they will use to assemble hoagies to wrap and enjoy!  Hoagie options include: Oven Roasted Vegetable, Parmesan and Pesto Hoagies; Goat Cheese, Cucumber and Tomato Hoagies; Turkey Meatball, Mozzarella and Marinara Hoagies; and Tuscan-style Chicken, Peppers, Onion and Swiss Hoagies.  Location: St. Mark’s.  Class Cost: $75 per parent-child pair (an additional child may be added for $35).

5/5 (Sun) — 1:00-3:00pm — Cooking with Dad: Sweets and Treats for Mother’s Day

Kids and Dads can get a head start on Mother’s Day by learning how to prepare these sweets and treats that may just be able to make it to Mother’s Day if you hide them well enough.  (If not, you’ll know how to make more for all the wonderful Moms in your life!)  On the menu:  Pastel Cream Cheese Mints; Caramel Corn; decadent Chocolate Truffles; and delicious homemade Pecan Pralines.  Location: St. Mark’s.  Class Cost: $75 per parent-child pair (an additional child may be added for $35).

CLASS PARTICIPANTS:

Parent-child classes are for children ages 5 and up and any adult helper (18+).  If you have any questions about Parent-child classes, please contact Chef Joel.

Costs include recipe packets to take home and all foods, equipment, and materials necessary to complete the recipes.
