COOKING CLASSES IN MADISON

Chef Joel Olson of Hemmachef offers cooking classes in Madison, Wisconsin, and is also available to teach throughout Wisconsin.

Chef Joel is adept at working with students of all ages and abilities, from children to adults, and making sure that everyone has a fun culinary experience while learning useful skills. His students have ranged from 6 year-olds to senior citizens, and many classes have included a wide age range of students. Chef Joel provides participants with safe, well-organized, fun-filled instruction, and strives to maintain a courteous, fair kitchen environment.

Classes are generally offered for these age groups:

  • Children’s Cooking Classes
    • designed for 8-12 year-olds
  • Teen Cooking Classes
    • designed for 13-17 year-olds
  • Parent-Child Cooking Classes
    • designed for children aged 6+ and their parents, grandparents, or other adult in their lives
  • Adult Cooking Classes
    • designed for individuals 18 and up
      • Please note that classes involving alcohol may be restricted to individuals 21 and up

    What a great way to spend a morning–making pasta from scratch with a child!   Kids will work with a parent, grandparent or a special friend to make different Homemade Pastas and Cheese Ravioli to be enjoyed with Marinara Sauce and Alfredo Sauce.  Ages:  Children ages 6+.   Location: St. Mark’s.  Cost: $65 per parent-child pair.  (Each additional child is $30.)

    Kids will learn some new recipes along with classic bread-making techniques, including proper techniques for measuring, proofing, mixing, kneading and baking, while preparing a variety of breads from around the world.  Previous bread and baking classes are not a prerequisite.  Participants will make and get to take home some of each of the following:   Naan – Indian flatbread; Damper – a traditional Australian bush bread that was once cooked over in the hot coals of a campfire; Qistibi – a popular traditional baked flatbread from the Tatarstan and Bashkortostan areas of Russia with a mashed potato filling; Arepa – Griddlebread from Colombia/Venezuela; and Rieska – a Finnish flat bread.  Location: St. Mark’s.  Class Cost: $50.
