COOKING CLASSES IN MADISON

Chef Joel Olson of Hemmachef offers cooking classes in Madison, Wisconsin, and is also available to teach throughout Wisconsin.  Chef Joel offers private classes and special culinary events and can make your corporate or private event a delicious and memorable one!

Chef Joel is adept at working with students of all ages and abilities, from children to adults, and making sure that everyone has a fun culinary experience while learning useful skills. His students have ranged from 6 year-olds to senior citizens, and many classes have included a wide age range of students. Chef Joel provides participants with safe, well-organized, fun-filled instruction, and strives to maintain a courteous, fair kitchen environment.

    What a great way for a child to spend time with Mom, Grandma, Auntie or a special friend on Mother’s Day!  – OR –  Dad, give Mom free time to enjoy by taking the kids to this fun class!  Participants will help to prepare a variety of canapés, tea sandwiches and tartlets and then sit back and enjoy them with tea and tea punch.  On the menu: Classic Cucumber Tea Sandwiches with Dill Butter; Mini Bacon, Lettuce and Tomato Sandwiches with Fresh Baked Cream Biscuits; Open-Faced Egg Salad Sandwiches; Turkey and Cheddar Puffs with Sweet Pepper Sauce; Fresh Berry Tartlets with Crème Patisserie; Chocolate and Banana Tartlets with Crème Chantilly; Green or Black Tea with Milk, Lemon and Sugar; Caffeine-Free Strawberry Tea Punch.  Ages: Children ages 6 and older.  Location: St. Mark’s.  Class Cost: $85 per parent-child pair; each additional child is $40.

    Learn how to make the delicious food of this East African country which is said to be the inspiration for Wakanda!  Including Injera–the tasty spongy sourdough flat bread used to eat these savory stews: Beef Tibs Berbere (Beef Rubbed with the traditional Ethiopian Spice Mix “Berbere”); Kik Alachi (Yellow Split Pea Stew); Misir Wot (Spicy Red Lentil Stew); Doro Wat (Traditional Chicken Stew); and also Himbasha (Ethiopian Flatbread).  Location: St. Mark’s.  Class Cost: $50.

    This popular and informative class helps you learn and practice the techniques that help take the chore out of cooking, plus impress your friends! Techniques include: deboning a chicken; dicing onions, carrots, peppers, celery, and other vegetables; pasting garlic; and cutting a selection of fruits. Knife selection, sharpening, and care will also be covered.  Bring your own knives or use ours.  A light meal will be prepared for class participants. Location: St. Mark’s.  Class Cost: $65.
